The following Terms and Phrases should be considered as having the associated meanings when used in the context of this site. Note that you can retrieve any of these definitions anywhere on the site where you see a small gray question mark next to the =$CSA->Term("Term")?> by clicking on it.
- Adjudication
- The procedures and hearings associated with a Disciplinary Committee reviewing a Misconduct Report issued by a Referee to determine if the Card will be upheld or not. Adjudication also includes the determination of any penalties, suspensions, etc.
- Administrator
- A User responsible for the overall operation of the NYSA Site. Sometimes also referenced as the Webmaster.
- Age
- The number of years old a Player is on a specific date (computed from the BirthDate)
- AgeLevel
- the Level the Player's Age suggests s/he should play at (Years old relative to 7/31 each year, computed from the BirthDate))
- Assignment
As a noun, it identifies the relationship between a specific Match Position and a Referee. As a verb, it refers to the steps and actions necessary to create the relationship between a specific Match Position and a Referee.
- Assignor
- Establishes those Users that are authorized by the VP of Referees to assign licensed Referees to officiate at a NYSA Match. Usually, there is one or more Assignors per Club.
- Association
- The collection of Members involved with Northshore Youth Soccer Association (NYSA) that agree to adhere to the NYSA's published Policies and Procedures in support of the Youth Soccer program in the NYSA's defined geographic area.
- Authority
- Identifies the Organization that sanctions a particular Match to be held. This might be a State Association, a local League, etc., but is ultimately the administrative body that organizes and tracks the competitions between the teams under it's guidance. In the case of the NYSA, this is typically the via the WSYL (Washington State Youth League), one of the Districts (U13 and up), or the NYSA Itself (U13 and down)
- Chapter
- Describes a collection of Referees that work as a group to provide coverage to Matches in a specific geographic area. A single Chapter commonly provides Referees to Matches sanctioned by one or more Authorities. The NYSA assigns its own Referees to most of the matches it sanctions, but also makes use of the services of EKCSRA in certain situations.
- Clinic
- An organized training session taught by one or more Instructors to all registered attendees. A Clinic can be a Camp, Referee Training, or a Clinic targeted at improving soccer skills
- Club
- A grouping of Teams within the Association. For U12 and down Recreational play, the grouping is geographical by Elementary School. U13 and up Recreational or Select Level play is managed Association wide by United and FC Alliance, respectively.
- Coach
- An individual that participates in a Match in a non-Player capacity that is responsible for the Team's operation during, before, and after scheduled Matches (including practices),
In many cases, the Site permits a Team's designated Assistant Coach or Manager to interact with the Site as if they were the Coach of the Team.
- Directory
- A repository of information about individual NYSA Members (Phone Numbers, Email addresses, etc.). Member: Directory permits you to look up information authorized by the Members themselves.
- Disciplinary Committee
- Identifies the set of Users that have been charged with the responsibility by an Authority to review and determine if the Misconduct Reports associated with the Authority's Matches will be upheld, denied, etc. The Disciplinary Committee is also charged with the responsibility to administer punishment, as appropriate and under the overall management of the Authority that sanctioned the Match
- Division
- The competitive grouping of Teams within a League to match Teams of a similar skill level against each other over the course of the Season
- Evaluation
- A Member's perception of how a Referee performed his/her responsibilities during a NYSA Match.
- Field
- A single physical surface area where a single activity (Match or Practice) can occur involving one or more Teams.
One or more Fields at a single physical, street address is called a Location.
- Field Usage
- A single period of time on a specific Date and at a specific Field where the NYSA, one of it's Teams, or one of it's Officers has been assigned use of the Field for a NYSA sanctioned activity.
- Forum
- A general discussion area for a free exchange of ideas, thoughts, and comments.
- Injuries
- A recording of Soccer related Injuries that have happened to a Player
- Issue
- A suggestion, question, or problem report associated with a RidgeStar supported Client Site
- Level
- identifies the assigned Level of Play associated with a Team that the Player is rostered to
- Location
- A single geographical street address (Park, School, etc.) containing one or more Fields.
- Manager
- An individual related to a Team that takes care of administrative oriented actions associated with the Team or other duties as assigned
- Match
- A scheduled competition between two Teams authorized by an Authority and officiated by a Referee
- Member
- Every individual that participates within the NYSA in any capacity is identified as a Member of the Association. ALL Members are expected to be aware of and comply with NYSA Policies and Procedures
- MemberId
- The unique numeric value or character string that identifies you individually as a NYSA Member.
- Misconduct Project
- Identifies the overall concepts, operational Site, related pages and functions, and supporting efforts associated with http://www.RidgeStar.com/misconduct/ and operated by RidgeStar as a service to it's clients and the general soccer community at large.
- Misconduct Report
- The information provided by a Referee that describes Misconduct behavior that occurred during a Match that the Referee was officiating. This includes Cautions (Yellow Card) and/or SendOffs (Red Card).
- NYSA
- Is the acronym used to describe the Northshore Youth Soccer Association, a District II member association.
- Northshore Youth Soccer Association
- The formal name for the NYSA, a Youth Soccer Association within District II
- Officer
- An individual elected or appointed as dictated by the applicable Bylaws to act as a representative for the NYSA or one of its member Clubs to carry on the business of the Association.
- Option
- An operational characteristic of the Site that can be dynamically modified by authorized Users
- Parent
- The individual of legal age that is responsible for representing the interests of a minor participant in the NYSA Programs. Usually, this is the Father or Mother of the underage User, but may be any other legally appointed guardian associated with the underage Member.
- Period
- A description of actions, match reports, and/or billing elements that exist as a group and stored with a unique identifier. Typically, used to describe the set of Match Reports that are paid by the issuance of a single Check to a Referee.
- Player
- An individual that participates with a Team as an active participant in a sanctioned Match. ALL individuals that participate with a NYSA Team in any way as a Player MUST be properly registered with the NYSA.
- PlayerHistory
- A general recording of the historical movement and assignment of a Player to one or more Teams
- Poll
- A named series of questions soliciting feedback from one or more Members about a specific topic or issue
- PollResult
- An individual response filed by a NYSA Member to a Poll
- Practice
- A specific Date and Time on a specific Field where a single NYSA Team is authorized to hold a team gathering for the purposes of improving their ability to participate in the Game.
- Priority
- A numeric value assigned to a Team that establishes the Team's Priority level with respect to acquiring Practice Field assignments.
This value is set by the Club Scheduler and normally ranges from low to highest for the Club's Teams, where the highest values permit the greatest level of choice of practice times and locations.
- Profile
- A reference to the functional page (Member: Profile) and storage location for personal information about a single NYSA Member. The Member controls the information available in the Directory through proper use of Member: Profile.
- Referee
- Describes a User of the NYSA Site that is licensed to officiate at a sanctioned Match. NYSA Referees are licensed by the USSF.
- Registrar
- An individual Member within the NYSA that is responsible for Player Registration activities.
- RidgeStar
- The pseudonym used for the company responsible for designing, implementing, and providing professional operations support for an Interactive Operations Site utilizing the Internet's Web services.
RidgeStar is an operational Division of North Ridge Software, Inc., a privately held Washington State corporation (serving it's customers since 1982).
- Roster
- A list of Players that are assigned to participate with a specific Team.
- Scheduler
- An individual Member of the Association that is responsible for the placement of Matches on Fields and all related scheduling activities associated with the Match.
- Segment
- A named portion of the Site that collects functions and pages related to a specific Role in a common portion of the site.
- SelfAssign
- The actions a Referee takes to get the Site to determine if s/he is eligibled for a specific Assignment. If eligible, the Referee can cause the Site to complete the Assignment (essentially, permitting the Referee to assign himself/herself the Assignment).
- Server
- Identifies a physical RidgeStar system operating a copy of the Apache HTTP Daemon that responds to Internet based requests for service.
- Session
- Defined by PHP. Essentially, uniquely identifies a single Browser's interaction with a single PHP based Site.
- Site
- The specific combination of files containing script (PHP) and graphics (JPG, GIF) available through the HTTP protocol that are combined to meet the requirements and is available on the Web at
- SiteName
- The unique combination of personal data elements that uniquely identifies a single User to the Site. This is simply the combination of the User's First, Middle, and Last names that defines you to [claSite]. [p]Prior to 2011, this was called the MemberID, but NYSA is now using the actual name in an effort to simplify logon processing for the Membership.
- Status
- An indication of the Registration condition of a Player. Possible values are:
- Pending
- identifies a Player that has completed the initial Registration process, but final acceptance for participation with the NYSA requires the receipt of the appropriate Registration Fee(s) by the NYSA office
- Refund
- the Player's Registration Fee is scheduled for or has been returned according to NYSA Refund policies
- Registered
- indicates that the Player successfully Registered on the recorded date AND has had the Registration Fee received and processed by the NYSA
- Rostered
- is the status a Player is placed in when they have been rostered to a specific Team for the upcoming season
- Unregistered or [empty]
- indicates that the Player is not currently registered for participation in the NYSA Program.
- SurveyResults
- An individual response filed by a NYSA Member to an online Survey
- Team
- A collection of Players that compete together in a League against other Teams. Every NYSA Team is administratively managed by a Club within the Association.
- Term
- A word or series of words that represents a specific element, activity, role, action, etc. when used in the context of the NYSA or the Site.
- Text Format
- You can control how the information you enter is displayed by using one or more of the following elements surrounded by brackets [ or ] within the text string you enter:

- Time
- Typically used to indicate a specific Time of Day (local time zone). When used in a Criteria box, "Morning" means between 12:01am and 11:59am, "Midday" means 10:00am to 4:00pm, "Afternoon" means 12:00pm to 5:00pm, and "Evening" means 5:01pm to 11:59pm
- Turnback
- The act of returning a current Referee Assignment to the pool of available Positions for other Referees to assign themselves to.
- User
- A single individual that is defined to the NYSA Site and permitted to logon. This is typically synonymous with a Member.
